Stand Atlantic: Live in Birmingham - 2024
Date: 19th September 2024
Location: XOYO, Birmingham
Stand Atlantic's sold-out Birmingham show was a night of unrelenting energy, crowd interaction and genre-blurring performances that left fans buzzing. With support from Slowly Slowly and Honey Revenge, the night was stacked with talent, setting the stage for Stand Atlantic's explosive headlining set.
Slowly Slowly kicked off the evening with a captivating performance which instantly won over the crowd. The Aussie act delivered a mix of emotive lyrics and powerful melodies that had the audience hooked from the get-go. Their ability to lure in listeners and hold them in the palm of their hands ensured they left the stage with a legion of new fans, setting a strong tone for the night ahead.
Honey Revenge, consisting of frontwoman/lead vocalist Devin Papadol and guitarist Donovan Lloyd, cranked up the excitement even further. The Los Angeles-formed band, clearly a crowd favourite, delivered a high-energy set that instantly had the room buzzing. Despite a majority of the crowd evading Papadol's calls for more crowd surfers, one dedicated fan went above and beyond, surfing the Brummie crowd an impressive six times! The highlight of the set was undeniably “Airhead”, the loudest and most enthusiastic moment of their performance, showcasing exactly why Honey Revenge is a must-see act.
When Stand Atlantic took the stage, the room's energy reached a fever pitch. With a packed-out crowd, the atmosphere was electric, and it wasn't long before the crowd surfers truly came into their own (without request). The pop-punk band’s setlist demonstrated their impressive range, seamlessly shifting from heavier tracks to pop punk bangers with ease. “Lavender Bones”, in particular, turned the volume up to 11, unleashing a relentless wave of pure euphoria from the crowd for a whole 3 minutes and 24 seconds.
Bonnie Fraser & co fed off the audience's energy, with fan favourites like “Hate Me (Sometimes)” eliciting huge singalongs. Though the crowd was filled with dedicated fans singing along to every lyric, it was the older tracks that truly ignited the room. New songs like “SEX ON THE BEACH” and “KISSIN' KILLER COBRAS” brought fresh intensity to the set, whilst a surprising mashup of “Toothpick” and Train's “Drops of Jupiter” offered a brief but beautiful respite.
The night ended on a high note with a fiery rendition of “GIRL$”, made even more special as Honey Revenge's Devin joined Stand Atlantic on stage, adding a thrilling collaborative element to the finale. It was a perfect close to a night which showcased Stand Atlantic's dynamic range, energetic stage presence and undeniable connection with their fans.
Stand Atlantic's Birmingham show wasn't just a gig; it was a celebration of pop punk's vibrant energy and a clear reminder of why themselves, Honey Revenge and Slowly Slowly are renowned as standout acts in the genre, not just in their native countries of Australia and America, but internationally.
